Yuzu dashimaki
Seasonal yuzu and mitsuba, with mentaiko as a subtle extra, go into this dashimaki. The fragrance of yuzu makes it an appetising dish.
POKOTABI / PLACES WORTH A DETOUR
くいしんぼ
At Kuishimbo, an izakaya near Kawaramachi Rokkaku, diners can enjoy sukiyaki and kushikatsu alongside dishes such as a yuzu dashimaki omelette and an omelette with Kujo spring onions and chirimen-jako. Cash only.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
One diner who ordered sukiyaki and kushikatsu found the meal filling even for one person, and particularly remembered the kushikatsu eggplant. At Kuishimbo, small plates featuring yuzu or Kujo spring onions could make a satisfying meal even more varied.
The menu includes yuzu dashimaki with seasonal yuzu, mitsuba and mentaiko (750 yen), as well as an omelette generously filled with Kujo spring onions and chirimen-jako, served with grated daikon and ponzu (700 yen). Choose the dashimaki for its fragrant yuzu, or the omelette with its refreshing accompaniment of grated daikon and ponzu. Either makes a good addition when you fancy another dish. For something heartier, there is mochi pork cooked with a sweet-and-savoury sauce and lemon, then finished with butter (750 yen), or a deep-fried lotus root sandwich filled with minced mochi pork and tofu (750 yen).
The restaurant is described as suitable for dining solo, and ordering a few small plates makes for one way to enjoy dinner. Kuishimbo is in Yamazaki-cho, Kawaramachi Rokkaku Higashi-iru, and accepts cash only. If you plan to pay by card or d-barai, check the available payment methods in advance.
